TRAINING
The examples below are just three of the courses that we can deliver; if you have specific requirements please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss further at [email protected]
Specialist Trauma Awareness Training
Suitable for all staff members, including those in management positions, this training opportunity allows participants to leave with a genuine understanding of what trauma is, why it occurs, and , most importantly, how we can both protect ourselves from developing a problematic post-traumatic stress response and begin to recover effectively if we are affected. Illustrated with real-life case studies and using memorable visual graphics, this course, although tackling a serious and often distressing subject, does so in a manner which is both enjoyable and memorable, ensuring that effective learning takes place for all participants.
Feedback from previous course participants:
“The trainer’s ability to explain the workings of the mind in trauma was exceptional. An excellent day and very informative, would recommend to others – very well presented and organised and I was very surprised how enjoyable learning about such a serious subject could be.’ Prison support staff member
Understanding the links between stress, sleep and low mood
Have you ever wondered why it is sometimes possible to wake up more tired than when you went to bed? Why it is that when things are tough and it would seem you most need your rest, you cannot get off to sleep and then wake up and cannot get back to sleep at 4am each morning? Have you ever wondered how you might improve your sleep, in order to awaken refreshed and ready for each day? Drawing on the latest research evidence, this course explores the fascinating, and very direct, links between stress, sleep and low mood (depression) and gives participants the understanding they need to ensure that they can use this understanding to improve the quality of their own lives and those of the people they live and work with. There are many opportunities, through group discussion and small group exercises for participants to ask questions and actively participate in the learning.
“I’ve struggled with poor sleep for quite a long time and I know a lot of my colleagues do to. This course was a revelation and everything was so clearly explained. I had no idea about the links between the quality of our sleep and depression and I’m really looking forward to trying some of the things that I’m taking away with me to improve that for myself.” Teacher
Building Resilience – essential understanding for difficult times
When the going gets tough, its not the tough but the informed and aware who keep going. In this hands on, interactive training, staff will be introduced to a clear understanding of the mental health continuum, from the mildest workplace stress right through to more severe difficulties such as depression and trauma, and to tools and strategies that they can begin using immediately to improve their own personal situation and that of colleagues within their team, or staff who they manage. Building on a foundation of an understanding of what we need as human beings to live an healthy emotional life, attending the training empowers staff to make any changes or adjustments necessary in their every day lives which can impact positively and significantly on their ability to cope with stressors, meet challenges, sleep well and, if applicable, take steps towards recovery from a period of difficulty.
“I’ve had a lot of mental health support over the years but this course gave me way more understanding than I have gained in all that time. Ros is a fantastic presenter – really warm and approachable and took the time to answer all of our questions really thoroughly. I particularly liked coming away feeling like I understand things within a bigger picture rather than having lots of different tools to use or ideas that don’t connect up. I will be able to use the information right away to make a difference in both my working and personal life and can see it being of great benefit.” Hospital administrator
Course Delivery:
All courses can be delivered either face-to-face or over Zoom. We have extensive experience of managing remote learning to ensure that it remains an interactive, inclusive and engaging experience. They can also all be tailored to run as full or half day courses; the latter, of course, giving more opportunity for workplace-specific input and for interactive learning.
